Homesteading

Homestead applies to properties occupied as primary residences. Homesteading may reduced the property’s classification rate or taxable market value or may qualify you for a property tax refund or a special program.

After you purchase your home, complete the online application at www.hennepin.us/homestead. You will also be required to provide a copy of your deed and Certificate of Real Estate Value from closing. Social Security numbers are required for all owners and their spouses.

Selling your home

Brooklyn Park residents selling their home are no longer required to obtain a Point of Sale (POS) Housing Inspection.

Concerned about vacant homes?

The Code Enforcement and Public Health Division monitors vacant properties and will respond to concerns about vacant and foreclosed homes.
