Homesteading
Homestead applies to properties occupied as primary residences. Homesteading may reduced the property’s classification rate or taxable market value or may qualify you for a property tax refund or a special program.
After you purchase your home, complete the online application at www.hennepin.us/homestead. You will also be required to provide a copy of your deed and Certificate of Real Estate Value from closing. Social Security numbers are required for all owners and their spouses.

- CAPI USA offers a Home Stretch Workshop and one-on-one pre-purchase homeownership counseling to look at loan qualification, to review credit, and build savings.
- Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County provides homeownership services, homebuyer workshops, foreclosure prevention, energy assistance programs and financial counseling.
- Minnesota Homeownership Center provides homebuyer education counseling services via a network of homeownership advisors embedded in community-based organizations across the state.
