Charges on your utility bill
The City of Brooklyn Park provides water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water/fire protection, recycling and street light services to residents and businesses.
Charges on your bill depend on the services available to the property. We bill usage fees and service fees.
Properties connected to the water and sewer system are billed based on metered usage. If you do not use any water for a billing period, you will still receive a bill for the service fees.
Vacant properties
Even if a property is vacant, we still bill the property for some fees. We cannot stop billing on the property.
New accounts
When a property is sold or a new tenant moves in, we can close the account for the old tenant and open an account for the new tenant.
Usage fees
Water
Water is based on actual water as measured by the meter for a specific service period. Rates are set up to encourage water conservation.

A service fee is billed for each service. The fees are based on meter size for the service period of 89 to 91 days.

Safe water testing
The safe water testing fee is based on the service period of 89 to 91 days. This fee is collected and passed on the State of Minnesota Department of Health per the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

Street light
The street light fee is based on the type of property, type of street lights in the development, and if they’re on a public or private street for the service period of 89 to 91 days.
All non-residential properties are charged $0.30 per foot of street frontage (minimum $1).

Late payment fees and penalties
If you are having trouble paying your bills on time, please call utility billing to discuss options. Your account must meet specific requirements to qualify.
Meter disconnection or reconnection
$75 per occurrence.
Non compliance penalty
$100 per month.
Late charge
10% on unpaid balance at the due date.
Returned check charge
You will be charged $30 for any check or automatic bank draft payment your bank returns to us.
Credits
Franchise fee credit
The franchise fee credit is given for customers currently paying special assessments for street repairs. Credits are issued on the city utility bill for the term of the assessment.
