Campaign Finance

We are the filing office for certain principal candidate committees, political committees and political funds. Learn how to register your committee and file campaign finance reports here.

Our campaign finance reporting is governed by Minnesota Statute (MS) 383B.041 to MS 383B.058, as well as sections of MS 211A and MS 211B.

Reporting in Brooklyn Park

Each committee must have a treasurer who completes and submits the financial reports.

All registered Brooklyn Park candidate committees.

Reporting Forms

A committee must register within 14 days of spending or receiving more than $100.

All registered candidate committees whose candidate is on the Special election ballot for Brooklyn Park Mayor are required to complete the following special election reports.

All registered Brooklyn Park candidate committees are required to complete the annual report.

Contribution Limits

These apply to campaigns for city elections in Brooklyn Park (Minnesota Statutes, section 211A.12).

Late Report filing fees

If you fail to file any statement or report within seven days after receiving a notice, we may impose a late filing fee of $5 per day, not to exceed $100, starting on the eighth day. (MS 383B.054, subd 5)

  • The above applies to pre-primary and pre-general reports for all registered political funds, political committees, and candidate committees whose candidate is not on the primary or general ballot as well as annual reports for all registered political funds, committees, and candidate committees.

If you fail to file a pre-election campaign report within three days of the due date, regardless of whether you received a notice, we may impose a late filing fee of $50 per day, not to exceed $500, starting on the fourth day after the due date. (MS 383B.054, subd 5)

  • The above applies to all registered candidate committees whose candidate was on the primary and/or the general ballot.
