Brooklyn Park Jewel of the North Community Plan

About the plan

The Brooklyn Park City Council adopted its Jewel of the North community plan in March of 2025. The plan contains six priority areas informed by community engagement throughout the summer and fall of 2024. The Jewel of the North community plan shapes the daily work of the City to ensure it aligns with resident priorities and remains relevant and responsive to community values. Each priority represents a mixture of aspirational goals as well as ongoing strategies undertaken by the City.

In addition to making progress in each priority area, the community plan will help move Brooklyn Park closer toward fulfilling its mission of a thriving community, inspiring pride, where opportunities exist for all!

Community Engagement

A steering committee composed of Council Members, Commissioners, and City staff guided the development of this strategic plan. This committee helped develop questions to ask the community, identified priority partners, and provided feedback on the language used in the strategic plan.

The facilitated engagement process was centered around three questions:

  1. If you had three wishes, what would you wish for the city of Brooklyn Park in order for it to be its best?
  2. What is the City of Brooklyn Park doing well?
  3. What strengths do you, your family, and your community bring to Brooklyn Park?

The City gathered responses to these questions in person and online. Staff organized community meetings in each Council district, visited several retirement communities, connected with our youth, and strategically door knocked to hear from our community. Through this process, over 800 community members provided feedback to inform this process.
