Small Business Center Application
Background
On October 8, 2021, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) became owners of the properties located at 7944-7996 Brooklyn Blvd N. The properties include a vacant CVS which the EDA now owns the land underneath, a liquor store at the south end of the property, and the Northwind Plaza strip mall which is home to 10 existing businesses.
The purchase of these spaces will allow the EDA to work with the existing businesses on the property to ensure their rents stay accessible as property values in the area increase. Along with stabilizing the property for existing tenants, the EDA will be developing a Small Business Center in the former Xperience Fitness space located at 7970 Brooklyn Blvd N.

Once complete the space will feature co-working style offices and limited retail that will provide accessibly priced space to businesses and entrepreneurs in the community.
The Small Business Center is the product of community’s vision for a place that caters to micro businesses and entrepreneurs in a way that is culturally relevant, accessible, and flexible. Construction for the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in winter 2022 with completion planned for May 2023.
