Have you seen some fun painted rocks around our parks and trails? Have you wondered what it is all about? We did too and it turns out, the creative lady who started it happens to be a resident of Brooklyn Park just wanting to spread some joy to those who find her rocks.
Brooklyn Park resident Wanda Mitchell decided to start a Facebook page in 2016 called Brooklyn Park Rocks, MN to spread positive messages all around the city she lived in. Wanda is an artist and knew that this would be a fun way of engaging the community, so she painted lots of rocks, hid them around town with the hope that people would share a picture of their rock on her page and then re-hide or create their own creative rock art to hide.
With the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more people are getting out and spotting these pretty rocks around town. “I was walking around Central Park and saw this bright, pretty rock,” said resident Pat Milton. “It inspired me to do the same, so I went home and painted some rocks with my grandkids and hid them around our neighborhood. We had a blast!”
That is exactly what Wanda wanted to happen with this initiative. “Most importantly, I just hope these rocks bring a smile to someone’s face,” Mitchell said.
Check out the community Facebook page here and feel free to share pictures of the rocks you find or of your very own rock art masterpieces.
