In 2018, Brooklyn Park residents approved a $26 million dollar Park Bond. Since then, many improvements have been made including the construction of the Brooklyn Park Sports Dome, park reinvestments, trail enhancements and field improvements. The next phase in Park Bond planning includes Community Activity Center improvements.
As part of the 2018 Park Bond Referendum, $4 million was identified to improve the Community Activity Center entrance and construct a place for older adult activities. An additional $2 million was dedicated to the construction of a new youth recreation center.
An aquatics facility has been discussed many times throughout the years. Results from the 2021 Resident Survey indicated that 76% of participants would be likely or somewhat likely use an aquatics facility at the Community Activity Center. In the same survey, 79% of participants said they would support or strongly support a property tax increase of $3.44 per month, or $41.28 per year, on a median value home for 20 years to build an aquatics facility.
The City of Brooklyn Park is now asking residents to complete a new survey that will gauge which amenities are most important to the community in each specific area and if an aquatics facility were to be constructed, what elements residents would prefer.
Please take a moment to fill out a survey that will guide city leaders in moving forward with Community Activity Center improvements. Your input is extremely valuable!
Once the survey is complete, residents will have an opportunity to enter a drawing to win one of 4 $25 gift cards to The Brooklyn restaurant.
