There’s a group of Brooklyn Park residents who get together every weekend in throughout most of summer and fall.
They call them selves the Metro Ryders, etc. (MRe), a light-hearted, recreational bicycling and physical fitness club based in Brooklyn Park, promoting cycling, rollerblading, walking and jogging at all levels, and keeps the activities safe and fun.
The group of men and women of all physical fitness levels meet every Saturday morning from May to September.
They meet at various parks in Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove, Coon Rapids and the seven-county metro.
The club encourages active living through physical activity and wellness in the northern and northwest corners of the Twin Cities and surrounding counties. The group visits a different park and trail system each week with the goal of exposing members to the region’s biking, pedestrian and natural assets.
The average distance they ride on a given Saturday is 16 miles (round trip). For the 2019 riding season, which ended on Saturday, Sept 14, the group completed 603.95 miles.
The group has been around since May 2018.
