Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks, wants you and your children to learn to swim in a safe and fun environment for a lifetime skill and healthy activity. Our Swimming program is for 6 months to adults. We follow American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim programs for ages 6+ and in 2004, developed a preschool swimming program for children ages 3 to 5 with successful results. Please see lesson descriptions for proper level placement. Lessons are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors-most of whom have years of experience!

Selecting a level

When selecting a level for your child, please refer to the descriptions of the skill levels and choose the one that most closely fits your child’s ability.

Repeating levels

Children must pass each level to move forward in the program. It is common for some children to repeat a level several times before advancing onto the next level. It is our philosophy that if a child is between levels, that they be registered for a semi-private or the lower level to give them additional time for skill development. We prefer to ensure success at a lower level than have a child struggle in an advanced level they are not ready for causing them to dislike swimming all together.

Questions about levels

For general questions and registration, please call 763-493-8333. If you have complex questions on what level to sign up for or need help determining the proper level, you may contact Patrice.Holter@BrooklynPark.org.

NEW Semi-private lessons (Age 4+)

Semi-private smaller class sizes offer more individualized attention as students learn skills and refine strokes. The participants estimated skill level is required at registration. Participants are divided by age, estimated ability and assessed on the first day of class for appropriate level adjustments. Each student will progress at their own rate, always working towards the next level and may pass up to two levels in one session.
