Park Bond Projects

Voters pass park bond referendum

On November 6, 2018, Brooklyn Park voters passed a park bond referendum with 63% of the vote. Now, the City will continue to seek feedback from the community on refining the specifics for each project.


The following projects will be implemented:

Park Priority Cost

Natural resources management plan

  • Develop and implement a Natural Resource Management plan to include removing invasive species, correcting and stabilizing river/creek shoreline erosion, and managing tree and prairie restoration.  

Trails, signs and lights

  • Construct trails to eliminate gaps in current trail system.
  • Develop and implement a sign system to help people get to where they want to go on local trails.
  • Install trail lighting to improve safety. 

Park reinvestments

  • Redevelop neighborhood parks, including but not limited to Lakeland, Hartkopf and Norwood Park.
  • Renovate park buildings used for recreation programs, including but not limited to Willowstone, Monroe and Northwoods parks.
  • Add kitchen facilities at River and Central park shelters.
  • Construct large capacity picnic shelter(s) within the park system.
Community Activity Center and Senior Center
  • Renovate Community Activity Center to improve customer service and experience.
  • Make customer service desk and program space ADA compliant.
  • Renovate the front entrance, improve senior facilities and upgraded restrooms.
  • Designate program space specifically for senior fitness and activities, and adult programs.

Fields and courts

  • Develop a hometown ballfield with a grandstand, restrooms and concession areas.
  • Partner with Park Center High School to install lighting on new turf fields.
  • Redevelop multi-use field space to increase space for soccer, lacrosse and cricket.

Teen Center

  • Develop an additional Teen/Recreation Center to serve youth (location to be determined). 
Historic Eidem Farm
  • Develop and implement the Self-directed Interpretative Site Plan.
  • Construct a building to provide restrooms, classroom space and offices to improve the customer experience and expand programming opportunities.

Community feedback

While the Park System Plan provides the roadmap to these park projects, the neighborhoods and the community at-large will provide additional input and feedback on specific park redevelopment.

Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, closed unless we have a scheduled event or activity.
