Nature Preschool Staff
Meet the staff
Maggie Olson, director
I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to be part of the Nature Preschool Program. The outdoor world has always been an important aspect of my life, beginning with growing up on a farm. Living in harmony with the Earth and enjoying the outdoors is something my parents taught me, and I taught my sons. As an Environmental Educator, I want others to find the spirit for and knowledge of nature's gifts and wonders, as the great environmentalist and author Rachel Carson says, "to create a sense of wonder in young children." I look forward to this new chapter in my career and getting to know the children, families and staff who are part of the Nature Preschool Program.
Sheri Gulenchyn, lead teacher
This is my fourth year teaching at Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool. My undergrad degree is from the University of Minnesota in elementary education and I earned my master's degree in K-12 reading instruction from the University of St. Thomas. I have been in the education field for 18 years.
I live in Oak Grove with my husband of 30 years and I have two adult children. During my free time, I enjoy doing projects around the house, reading, and solving puzzles like sudoku and the Rubik's cube. I am delighted to have transitioned into teaching preschool four years ago because every day brings something new and I get to experience things with them for the first time. I look forward to getting to know you and your children.
Kendall Draper, lead teacher
I graduated from Bethel University with licenses in Early Childhood, Preprimary, and Elementary Education. This will be my third year in the Osseo District and I am so excited to be partnering with Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool!
In my free time, I love to go camping with my family and read books by the lake. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of outdoor adventures!
Missy Rose, lead teacher
I am extremely excited to be working at Brooklyn Park Nature Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool. I have worked for the City for seven years leading summer camps and I am ready to transition into a teaching position. I recently graduated from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University with a degree in elementary education. This is where I found my passion in teaching and my love of the outdoors.
In my spare time, I enjoy snow skiing, canoeing and rock climbing. I'm excited to start my journey here and begin enriching kids, parents, and the community with the amazing inquiry that nature provides.
