Days and times change frequently. Check the daytime monthly schedule posted in the Community Activity Center for class changes and dates! All classes are located at Community Activity Center.
There are many ways that adults can participate in fitness classes.
SilverSneakers, Healthy Contributions, Silver & Fit Membership

Step To It Challenge
Sign up now for the May 1-28 Step To It challenge. Start spreading the word and get your friends and family excited about steps toward health throughout the year. The Hennepin County and Brooklyn Park Step To It 28 Day Challenge is for you no matter what fitness level you are at right now. Join the challenge to reach 10,000 steps a day for 28 days. We will award Minnesota Twins tickets to individuals who logged the most steps in their age bracket. These individuals are also recognized on the field at a Twins game. Other prizes will be given away too!

Fitness room and walking track
Can't make it to our classes? That's okay! The Community Activity Center (CAC) has a fitness room and walking track that you can visit any time during business hours.
Class descriptions and activity levels
This scale is an approximate guide to the activity level of a class or trip. The scale is based on the level of activity and physical ability needed to perform the activity. The scale is 1 (passive) through 5 (vigorous).

Classic enjoys a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living.Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated or standing support. Activity level: 1 (Passive)
Experience stress reduction through restorative breathing, and maximize flexibility, balance, and range of motion while moving the whole body through a complete series of seated and standing poses (chair support offered for comfort and safety). All levels are welcome. Activity level: 1 (Passive)
Realign, Rebalance, Restore
Develop whole body health, discover pain relief, and improve overall well-being while re-establishing alignment, balance and strength through simple movements that are easily accessible and immediately beneficial. Every step can lead toward pain and disease in a poorly-aligned body, or can be a step toward health in a well-aligned body. Movements will be completed in socks or bare feet. Activity level: 1 (Passive)
Walk With Ease
Establish physical activity as part of everyday life! Over the 6-week program, Walk with Ease builds confidence in ability to be physically active, increases balance, strength, and walking pace; and reduces pain and discomfort associated with arthritis. Everyone interested in being more active and meeting new people is invited to join! Walk With Ease is an evidence-based program created by the National Arthritis Foundation. Activity level: 1 (Passive)

Roll Out and Tune Up
Create a sense of relaxation similar to a massage by using balls and foam rollers to release muscle tension, improve joint range of motion, and increase circulation. Gentle release techniques (myofascial release) is a must-have for anyone who exercises. Activity level: 2 (Moderate)
Enhance overall physical health by increasing cardiorespiratory and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout. Resistance training with handheld weights, tubing, and a ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support and stretching. Activity level: 2 (Moderate)
Reduce stress and restore a healthy and balanced mind and body while also increasing strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination. Class sessions include seated and standing poses, balance exercises, stretching and a stress-reducing, relaxation segment. Activity level: 2 (Moderate)
Please bring a yoga mat for floor work. You must be able to get up and down from floor unassisted.
Combo is an effective pairing of weight training and cardio largely done while seated in a chair. This class targets crucial muscle groups for functional daily living strength needs, increases your heart rate for cardiovascular endurance and improves overall balance. Activity level: 2 (Moderate)
SilverSneakers Boom Muscle
BOOM MUSCLE is an innovative solution to improving skill, function and health. Classes may be very appealing to the male participant as they focus on a variety of strength-based training techniques borrowed from popular sports training for an action-packed class. MUSCLE is perfect for those who don't feel comfortable in dance-based classes. Up your game! Activity level: 3 (Active)
Building Better Bones
Build healthier bones and reduce risk of fractures while increasing muscular strength and endurance. Handheld weights, tubing and body-weight exercises are used to sustain bone density. Activity level: 3 (Active)
Learn to breathe deeper and focus your mind while stretching and strengthening your whole body. Each class includes balancing, stretching, twisting, hip opening, ab strengthening and a peaceful ending rest. Designed for beginners to intermediate students, individual poses are presented from start to finish ensuring a safe, fun, challenging, yet doable class for all! Activity level: 3 (Active)
Dress lightly in non-baggy clothes. Please bring a yoga mat.
SilverSneakers Boom Move
BOOM MOVE is a dance-based exercise class designed specifically for the active older adult. he easy-to-follow choreography is combined with energizing music for an engaging class experience that will improve health and build social support. Activity level: 4 (Brisk)
Ditch the workout and join the original dance-fitness party! Zumba fuses international rhythms with easy-to-follow dance moves for a fun and effective fitness class that feels more like a night out dancing than a workout at the gym. Party yourself into shape with dance moves inspired by Latin styles as well as belly dance, swing and more. Activity level: 4 (Brisk)
Discover your aerobic potential and infuse enjoyment into life while dancing to easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Movements include Salsa, Cumbia and Merengue. Classes are led by a certified Zumba instructor. Activity level: 4 (Brisk)
Energize the body and promote heart health, total body conditioning, and muscular endurance with easy-to-follow choreography movements and resistance training. Activity level: 4 (Brisk)
Strengthen the body and add stability in your joints using basic pilates moves and balance exercises that focus on abs, back, hips and glutes. A fusion of light weights, bands and balls to mimc daily functions may be incorporated for pain prevention, balance and toning. Ending with a final relaxation stretch. Activity level: 4/5 (Brisk/Vigorous)
Classic aerobic movements to get the heart pumping along with strength training followed by an ab workout and final stretch. Cardio may include: step, kickboxing, hi/lo aerobics, circuit plyos and interval training. Strength may include: hand weights, resistance bands and body weight exercises. Activity level: 5 (Vigorous)
Restorative yoga (not currently offered)
Discover restorative yoga in this class where yoga postures are modified with props for support; postures may be held to allow the body to fully relax. Slower, softer, gentler, calming, soothing, stress-relieving, grounding – all words to describe restorative yoga. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing.
Yoga-flow (not currently offered)
Flow yoga is also known as vinyasa, which means "following your breath", so you always go at your own pace. This class is based on moving from one pose to the next using sun salutations and postures that connect to one another. Each class includes balance, strength, compression, twists, hip/heart openers, core work and a quiet rest at the end which you will have richly earned! This class is designed for intermediate students. Dress lightly in non-baggy clothes. Please bring a yoga mat.
