Ramon Ruelas and Wilmer Rivera have known each other for 6 years. Both have worked in the restaurant business for over a decade. And both were working at Land O’ Lakes when they decided to open a restaurant together last year.
El Rancho, which opened in January of 2019, is a bright, airy restaurant with orange walls, lively Spanish music, curved arches and an impeccably clean dining area. The smells of spicy seafood, traditional chimichangas and zesty burritos fill the air. The family-friendly restaurant features numerous daily specials and includes a full bar. No matter your taste for Mexican food, you’re sure to find a wonderful taste bud experience and great service at El Rancho Mexican Restaurant.
Ramon and Wilmer began their search for a building over a year and a half ago. Once they found a great and affordable opportunity in Brooklyn Park, they made the decision to launch the business. To get started, they did much of the painting and tile work themselves while working full time in other jobs. It was hard going, but worth the effort to create a business that was truly their own. As Ramon says, “once the place opened and we could work on something that is ours, everything we went through is very worth it now.”
Located at 1405 85th Avenue N, just off the intersection of 85th Avenue N and Highway 252, the first few months of the business have been a success. “This used to be a Mexican restaurant, so people are used to the place and the commute from their houses, so when we opened everyone was very happy,” Ramon explained. “More people are coming every day,” Wilmer added, ““we have new customers every day, so we’re happy.”
El Rancho has Happy Hour every day until 6 p.m. On Mondays they offer a 2-for-1 special, Taco Tuesday features tacos for only $1.25, and Wednesday is an all-day Happy Hour. “We try to have different specials throughout the week to draw different people,” Wilmer says. So be sure to check out El Rancho on any day of the week – you never know what special you might find at this new and exciting addition to Brooklyn Park’s restaurant scene!
