Developer Puts Brooklyn Park’s “Project Hotdish” On Hold

Indiana-based Scannell Properties has proposed a fulfillment center for a 72-acre site near Highway 169 and 109th Avenue near the Champlin border. The proposed four-story building would be the largest of its kind in the state. The Brooklyn Park City Council was supposed to vote on the project Nov. 26. That agenda item has been removed until further notice.

The City of Brooklyn Park will be lighting various city buildings purple during October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The buildings include City Hall, the Police Department North and South Stations, the Fire Department Central Station and the Operations & Maintenance Facility. Additionally, purple light bulbs will be available at the City Hall front desk for residents to pick up so that they may switch out their porch lights for the month of October.

On Wed. Sept. 19, 9 a.m., Noble Avenue between Brookdale Drive and 78th Avenue will be closed while crews repair a water main break. The water will be turned off at the properties on Noble Avenue, near the break, at 9:30 a.m. The water will be turned on once the repairs are complete. Motorists should drive carefully and look for detour signs.

Despite the rain drops and gloomy skies Monday, things were actually brighter for commuters on U.S. Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park and Champlin. The highway had been a cone zone for months. Now the massive road construction project is almost complete. For drivers in the northwest suburbs this was a “no-pain, no-gain” scenario.

Motorists traveling on Brookdale Drive in Brooklyn Park will encounter a two-week road closure beginning Wednesday, Aug. 15. On Wednesday, Aug. 15, both directions of Brookdale Drive between Newton Ave. and Oliver Ave. will close. Weather permitting, the road will reopen Wednesday, Aug. 29. The road will close so crews can repair an underground watermain. The repairs are part of a mill and overlay construction project on Brookdale Drive.
