Hunting and Fishing License

State law requires all individuals 16 years and older to purchase a license to hunt and fish (unless exempt).

Dates valid

Fishing licenses are good March 1 through April 30 of the following year.

Applying for a hunting or fishing license

You must apply in person with your identification. You can purchase a license at City Hall or another license agent.

Requirements for Minnesota residents

You must bring in the following forms of identification:

  • Your social security number must be provided or already be on file with the Department of Natural Resources to purchase a license.
  • Proof of Minnesota residency (a Minnesota Driver’s License or Identification Card),

or

  • A Firearm Safety Certificate

Requirements for non-Minnesota residents

You must bring in the following forms of identification:

  • Your social security number must be provided or already be on file with the Department of Natural Resources to purchase a license.
  • A Driver’s License from state of residence,

or

  • A State Identification Card from state of residence

Cost

Fees vary based on the license and/or stamp purchased. MN DNR Stamps are available and may be required when hunting and fishing certain species or in certain areas.
