This event is also a "kick off" for the Purple Lights Initiative honoring October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. The city will be lighting various city buildings purple during October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Additionally, purple light bulbs will be available at the City Hall front desk for residents to pick up so that they may switch out their porch lights for the month of October. This is sponsored by the Brooklyn Park Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the Brooklyn Park Police Department and Cornerstone.
