All Brooklyn Park residents are invited to attend the public hearing of the City Council to express their opinions on the budget and on the proposed amount of property taxes. The hearing will be held on: \nMonday\, December 5\, 2022 at 6 p.m.\nBrooklyn Park City Hall\n5200 85th Ave N\, Brooklyn Park\, MN \nIf the discussion of the budget cannot be completed\, a time and place for continuing the discussion will be announced at the hearing. \nSubmit your comments \nIf you are not able to attend the public hearing to express your opinions\, you can also submit your comments: \n\nonline using this form\nby email at bpfinance@brooklynpark.org\nby mailing them to the City Clerk’s office\n\nCity of Brooklyn Park\, City Clerk’s Office\n5200 85th Ave. N.\, Brooklyn Park\, MN 55443\n\n\n\nWhat is Truth in Taxation? \n“Truth in Taxation” (TnT) is a process first enacted by the legislature in 1988 to enhance public participation in Minnesota’s property tax system. You can read more about Truth in Taxation here. \nThe TnT process consists of these three components: \n\nEach local government is required to formally adopt a “proposed levy” in September for the upcoming year; the final levy\, when ultimately adopted\, may not exceed the proposed levy.\nCounty auditors generate parcel-specific notices of proposed taxes for all parcels of property based on the proposed levies.\nEach local government is required to hold a public meeting after the notices come out where budget and tax issues are discussed\, and where public testimony must be allowed\, prior to adopting its final levy.\n\nTnT has a goal of improving accountability by focusing taxpayers on the relationship between budget decisions and property taxes\, and providing taxpayers with a greater opportunity to become involved in the local government budgeting process.

SUMMARY:2022 Local Board of Appeal and Equalization
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Brooklyn Park Board of Appeal & Equalization! The purpose of the Board of Appeal and Equalization is to establish the market value and classification of property as of January 2\, 2022. This function does not include consideration of prior year valuations; nor does it include any appeal of the amount of property taxes. The market value is the most probable price expressed in terms of money that a property would bring if sold in the open market in an arm’s length transaction between a willing seller and a willing buyer. Similar properties in your neighborhood that recently sold were considered when establishing the most probable sale price of your property. You are responsible for presenting evidence to the Board of Appeal and Equalization as to why the valuation or classification for your property established by the City Assessor is not accurate as of January 2\, 2022. Please complete the form below. You will also be required to schedule an appointment for your property to be inspected at this time. You will be asked to present your case to the board. We ask that you limit your presentation to 5 minutes to allow other property owners equal opportunity. \nProperty assessment\nLearn more about property assessment from Hennepin County > \nJoin the meeting\nIf you plan to call into the Local Board meeting\, please notify your assessor at 763-493-8175 or email assessing@brooklynpark.org.
