We are honored to announce the grand opening of Brooklyn Avenues!
Brooklyn Avenues is a brand-new ,12-bed shelter and transitional housing program for homeless youth. The building was constructed by the City of Brooklyn Park and leased to Avenues for Homeless Youth for $1 per year. History of the shelter
Wilder Research estimates that, on any night in Minnesota, over 4,000 youth are homeless and on their own. They are literally surviving the streets and at great risk of exploitation. This is a statewide issue—homeless youth are found in rural, urban and suburban communities. Youth homelessness jumped 63% in Minnesota in just three years, according to Wilder Research’s latest survey in October 2012.
But homeless youth are strong, resilient and filled with potential! The goal of Brooklyn Avenues is to provide them with a safe home and all the support they need to move from surviving the streets to thriving young adults who realize their dreams and participate fully in community.
