Council Member, West District
Susan Pha is a small business owner, author of two published books, dedicated public servant, and a proud resident of Brooklyn Park. She was appointed to the Council on November 10, 2016.
Susan’s passion for public service stems from her life experience of coming to this country as a 3-year-old refugee, growing up poor and receiving opportunities to which she was able to improve her life and her family’s economic circumstances. Feeling incredibly blessed she has and continues to dedicate her time to serving the community and giving back. For more than 10 years Susan has volunteered and served in Brooklyn Park and across Minnesota on many nonprofit boards, task force, planning committees, etc.
As Councilwoman, Susan works hard for transparency and accountability in governance. She focuses on serving residents by listening to their concerns, connecting them to city services, advocating on issues important to them, and being a responsible steward of taxpayer’s dollars. Susan is committed to economic development, good roads and infrastructure, public safety and creating opportunities for people to prosper.
She has two boys and two girls with her husband Nic of 22 years. Whenever she can, Susan enjoys tending to her organic vegetable garden, reading a good book, spending time with her daughters baking up a storm, fishing with her sons, and movie date nights with her husband.
Susan has served as Council liaison to the Planning Commission and Human Right Commission. Susan also serves as the Director of Project Success and she is a mentor to a group of Brooklyn Park girls.
Susan has received many awards for her community service and work. Most recent is an Emerging Legend Award from Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul and a Dedication Award from Hmong American Day.
