Our new pop-up Plaza Park and the nature play area near the Brooklyn Park Library, is nearly complete and almost ready for summer programming and events!
Over the coming years, the city is planning to transform this space to a permanent plaza as part the Center for Innovation and the Arts (CITA) project with North Hennepin Community College and Metro State. Construction of CITA can start as early as 2022.
The Plaza Park project includes piloting a series of community events and programs that will guide the vision for CITA.
Other goals of the project are to:
- Create a vibrant place that incorporates the arts in both design and programs
- Strengthen the artistic ties between the partners and inform how shared programming and a partnership model will work at a future CITA
- Identify and connect to artists within the community
- Create a “Sense of Pride” within the community
The city’s Operations and Parks team developed the base park, nature play area and assisted with installation of the artist elements. Their creativity is what made this Plaza Park come alive. The Recreation and Parks Department will be activating the Plaza with Rec on the Go and a few special events this summer. Stay tuned for more information on these events and programs.
