Plaza Park has grown into a great summer event space! From free live street theatre performances featuring local Southeast Asian community members to Brooklyn Park Rocks and other family painting events, an Arts Festival and more. Many people used the new park space at 85th Avenue North and West Broadway to have fun and enjoy community events this summer.
The first ever Arts Festival was held at the Plaza on June 26. More than 300 people attended. Attendees visited 15 vendor booths of primarily Brooklyn Park residents whose artwork included pottery, Minnesota pillows, live painting and unique woodwork. Arts Festival attendees also joined activities like painting a “Welcome to Brooklyn Park” art mural with Geno Okok, watching performances from TKO Drumline, DJ Snuggles, Bellydonna and Afrocontigbo, as well as enjoying food from Mr. Ice Cream or Tacos Calentano Del Sur.
The summer events reflected the diversity of Brooklyn Park with artists and participants of many backgrounds gathering to engage in the arts together. We look forward to seeing what other events will be held at Plaza Park!
