Lisa Jacobson will be the next Mayor of Brooklyn Park. The City Council certified the results of the August 10 special election for Mayor at the Council meeting on August 23. This follows a recount that was held on Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The Council, in its role as the Board of Certification, reviewed seven challenged ballots from the recount and certified the recount results, with the results showing Jacobson being elected by a two-vote margin over Hollies Winston.

The Council passed resolutions certifying the results of the recount and Jacobson as the elected candidate for Mayor. Jacobson will be sworn into office on Monday, August 30, 2021 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 5200 85th Avenue North. Details for the event will be announced at a later date.
Jacobson’s election creates a vacancy in a Council seat for the East District that will be filled in a special election. The Council will approve an election calendar including candidate filling dates, a potential primary date and an election date at an upcoming meeting.
