Preparing your preschooler for Kindergarten is a big task! Parents of preschoolers are looking for ways to set their child up for success as they enter elementary school. Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool is a school-year program that encourages curiosity, exploration and discovery of the natural world. Under the direction and supervision of specially trained staff and teachers, kids will spend as much time outside as possible in the nature play areas, ponds and other natural environments around the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center.
Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool takes into account Minnesota’s cold winters with special equipment and supplies, but when the weather is just too cold, an indoor classroom exists with a built-in treehouse, live creatures and learning stations.
“We have excellent full-time teachers in the preschool and we also work with Three Rivers Park District to bring a visiting naturalist to enhance learning about nature and the outdoors,” said Brooklyn Park Recreation Services Manager Jen Gillard. She points out that quality, trained staff are key to the preschool’s success.
“Keeping the Nature Preschool financially accessible for all families is a key priority,” says Gillard. “We want to provide a place where all children, regardless of their family’s economic situation, can have access to a nature-based, high quality kindergarten readiness program. Fee assistance will be part of that.”
