Roles and duties

The Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission helps determine and plan the future of the park system and recreational opportunities. The commission is great for those who want to ensure there are fun places to go and things to do in Brooklyn Park:

  • Give input on parks issues, everything from replacement of playground equipment to noise ordinances
  • Give input on recreational activities to ensure they are affordable and equitable for all
  • Assist in the future planning of the park system
  • Serve as ambassadors for the parks and recreation department

Apply to become a commissioner

Applications are always welcome! Applications are kept on file for one year. As openings occur, applicants are notified of openings and invited to participate in the commission interview process.

Master plan

The purpose of the Recreation and Parks Master Plan is to guide future investments to ensure the recreation and parks system continues to meet the needs of the community and be economically sustainable.

The Recreation and Parks Master Plan establishes goals, objectives, actions and tools to help the city, residents, and partner organizations work together to guide the system from Good to Great over the next 25 years.

The Master Plan identifies five priorities for the future.

Sunday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

June through August office hours

Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, closed unless we have a scheduled event or activity.

Hours may vary based on events, activities and holidays.
