You passed the park bond referendum in November 2018 with 63% of the vote.

Park bond referendum

On November 6, 2018, Brooklyn Park voters passed a park bond referendum with 63% of the vote. Now, the City will continue to seek feedback from the community on refining the specifics for each project.

Community feedback

While the Park System Plan provides the roadmap to these park projects, the neighborhoods and the community at-large will provide additional input and feedback on specific park redevelopment. There were 1028 total responses.

Hartkopf Park

Project funding source

The master planning, design development and redevelopment of Hartkopf Park is being funded through the $26 million Park Bond Referendum that voters approved in November 2018.

Project goals

Norwood Park is a 31-acre park located between Pearson Parkway and 82nd Avenue off Newton Avenue. As one of the largest parks in the Park System, Norwood has been prioritized for redevelopment in the Park Bond Reinvestment Projects.

Some of the goals for the Norwood Park redevelopment are:

  • Create a lighted walking loop trail in the park
  • Construct a park building with restrooms
  • Create a new basketball court near the tennis courts
  • Add a picnic shelter near the tennis and pickleball courts
  • Renovate ballfields on western portion of park to create multi-use field space
  • Improve the existing playground
  • Create a soft surface trail to connect with Queen Park
  • Improve traffic flow in the parking lot

Project updates

The March 26th Brooklyn Park Community Assembly to reveal the final plans for the redevelopment of Hartkopf, Lakeland and Norwood parks was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to keep residents informed, we are sharing the final park plan directly with those neighbors closest to Hartkopf Park. These plans will be used to begin the design development of construction documents to be used for bidding that will happen this Fall.

Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2021.

Lakeland Park

Project funding source

Project goals

Lakeland Park is a 9-acre park located just east of County Road 81 off 66th Avenue. As one of the oldest parks in the Park System, Lakeland has been prioritized for redevelopment in the Park Bond Reinvestment Projects.

Some of the goals for the Lakeland Park redevelopment are:

  • Create a lighted walking loop trail in the park
  • Create a trail connection to the Crystal Lake Regional Trail on the north end of the park
  • Create a large multi-use field in the park
  • Create a picnic area
  • Create a community garden space in the southern portion of the park
  • Build/improve basketball courts in the park
  • Improve the existing playground
  • Improve traffic flow in the parking lot
