College classes

Interested in getting more experience with computers or other classes? Minnesota state colleges now offer tuition at $20 per credit for seniors 65 and older.

North Hennepin Community College and Hennepin Technical College are local, affordable college option; come check them out! They have evening, online, and weekend classes.

Fall semester begins August 21.

Defensive Driving

Age 55 and up driver improvement classes

Minnesota Highway Safety Council offers defensive driving classes with a certified instructor. This course will save you 10 percent on your auto insurance for 3 years! There are no written or behind the wheel tests. Certificates will be issued upon class completion.

Curious about accessing library resources on your electronic device?

Here’s your chance for some one-on-one help. Bring your iPad, Kindle, smartphone, Nook or Android and we’ll help you get it “library ready.” Join us for a drop-in pop-up class for seniors.

Smartphone Workshop

This 2-hour introductory workshop covers some of the most common and basic usage of a smartphone. You will become familiar with:

  • Important cellphone concepts
  • Its use in our society
  • Smart device interface
  • Buttons
  • Ports
  • Status bar
  • Accessories
  • Call, voice, and text messaging
  • Emergency SOS
  • Sound settings
  • Simple apps management
  • Airplane mode
  • Wi-Fi and hotspot search and internet connections
  • Light web browsing
  • Security awareness
  • Camera use, how to take photos and share via texting
  • Clock, alarm, stop watch, and world clock settings

We will answer a few questions you may have. We will also look at outside resources to help you learn more about smartphone use.

Watercolor studio

Adult Watercolor

Explore different ways to use water color through one-on-one instruction. Learn at your own pace in a fun and relaxing atmosphere! No drawing skills required. Patterns are provided and you get a new painting in every session. Materials are provided.

If you are new to this class, please request a supply list when you register. Remember to bring a bag lunch.
