Youth Service Policy
The Youth Service Policy is designed to introduce students from ages 13-17 to an employment environment through volunteer opportunities in a recreation or park setting. Some students are assigned service hours by their school to fulfill a program or class assignment; others have court-referred hours; others are members of a group from a church, a school, or the community. Some projects can easily accommodate individuals or small groups. Other projects require large groups, and some require the presence of adult(s). Volunteer jobs may be used on any job application.

Community Service

Community Service is an important part of teen programming in Brooklyn Park. It is this component of volunteerism that separates Brooklyn Park teen programs from other teen programs. We believe it is extremely important to give back to one's community on a regular basis, and in doing so teens grow in their leadership skills, social skills, job skills, self confidence, and in their connection with the community. Listed below are some of the many volunteer opportunities available to Brooklyn Park teens:

  • Come Home to the Park Rally - Teens and other community groups showcase their programs to the community in fun and innovative ways - the last Saturday in January.
  • Kids Fair - School District 279 hosts and annual fair at which Brooklyn Park teens run games and face painting - typically the first of April.
  • Tater Daze Parade - Teens proudly march in the annual Brooklyn Park Tater Daze Parade - the 16th of June 2007.
  • Mary's Place - Teens have always enjoyed interacting with the children that live at Mary's Place. Mary's Place is connected to Caring and Sharing Hands in downtown Minneapolis. It is a residential facility for families who are homeless - volunteer in July.
