A Pool Operator's Handbook has been developed as a guide to the operation and regulation of public and semi-public swimming pools and spas. Although the basic principles can be applied to all pools, contact your local health agency for specific requirements. This handbook is intended as only a guide to pool regulations and maintenance. We recommend you review the applicable codes for more information. In addition, your pool company can assist you with the specific care of your pool.
The goal of your local health agency is to prevent illnesses or injuries from swimming pools, spas and special purpose pools. This must also be a goal of the pool operator. Through plan reviews, construction reviews, inspections, water sampling and education, we provide information to assist the operator in meeting this goal.
Sections on diseases and accidents, pool equipment, water chemistry, operational checklists and trouble shooting are included in the handbook. Much of the information provided is based on pool operator questions and requests.
If you or your agency/business is responsible for maintenance of a public pool, please contact the following for a copy of this Handbook:
