A temporary sign is a sign that is displayed with or without a permit for a specified period of time. A temporary advertisement sign in the form of a banner must be set back at least 15 feet from all property lines. A temporary freestanding sign such as a real estate, garage sale, campaign, construction, nonprofit event, and roadside agricultural signs do not have required setbacks from property lines. However, temporary signs are NOT PERMITTED in the right-of-way, on other public property or within the 30 foot clear-view triangle at public or private streets or driveway intersections. Banners
Signs in the form of a banner must not exceed 200 square feet in area and a permit must be obtained. Banners can be displayed on existing fences, accessory buildings and primary building facades providing they meet the 15 feet setback requirement. Banners may not be placed on trees, vehicles, or other unapproved surfaces. A permit is required before placing a banner on any property.

Window Signs
Window sign coverage may not exceed 25 percent of the total window area. A sign permit is not required for signs located up to two feet from the inside of windows or for interior store displays not visible from the outside of the building. Minimizing clutter and display of signs in your windows will enable by-passers and Police personnel to see in the store and therefore reduce the risk of burglaries and crime. (City Ord. Search Lights
Searchlights may be used on a site for four days per calendar year. (City Ord. Ch. 150.06.A.4)
Real Estate
Real Estate signs must not exceed six square feet in an area for residential properties and 20 square feet for commercial properties and may not exceed eight feet above grade. Signs must be removed within seven days following the closing or leasing of the subject property.
Temporary open house and/or directional signs may be placed in public view no earlier than 9:00 a.m. on the actual day of the open house and must be removed no later than 9:00 p.m. on the same day. (City Ord. Ch. 150.06 (B) 3.a)
Real Estate Area Identification Sign
A temporary area identification sign for the sale or lease of a residential project of two or more dwelling units or lots, and lots for non-residential projects may be erected provided the sign area does not exceed 100 square feet and eight feet in height. Signs must be setback at least 25 feet from the property line and removed when the project is 80 percent sold or leased.

Construction Sign
One sign may be installed upon a construction site denoting the names of the involved parties. Signs shall not exceed 100 square feet in area and must not exceed 12 feet above grade. Signs must be removed within two years after issuance of the first building permit or issuance of a certificate of occupancy, whichever occurs first. Signs may only be erected on the property where work is being performed.

Garage Sale Signs
A garage sale sign may not exceed four square feet in area and six feet above grade. Signs must not be displayed longer than four days and must be removed by the owner immediately following the sale. The signs may not be attached to power poles, streetlights, traffic signals, and road signs or placed in the right-of-way. (City Ord. Ch. 150.06 (B) 4).
Farmers Market Signs
At a farmers market in Brooklyn Park, all vendors who plan to participate must obtain a permit before sales can begin. All vendors are allowed one sign without a permit. The sign must meet all regulations in the ordinance for temporary signs and can only be displayed the day of the market.

Non-Profit Event Signs
A non-profit event signs must not exceed 8 square feet. The number of signs throughout the city is not limited; however, no more than one sign may be located per property, and no more than 4 signs may be located at a street intersection. Signs may not be located in the city boulevard area or 30 foot clear view triangle. Signs must not be posted in excess of 15 days prior to the event and must be removed no later than 2 days following the event. The promoting organization, location and dates must be on the signs. A permit with a list of all sign locations is required.
