The focus of the Business Maintenance Program (BMP) is to balance the needs of the community with the needs of the businesses. Brooklyn Park has a wide variety of businesses, over 1000 businesses ranging from small independent to large corporations. The program goal is to preserve, strengthen, and assist business operators in maintaining and improving their properties and ensuring a safe environment.
Services:
The program plan is to evaluate all commercial properties and businesses in regards to zoning, property maintenance, nuisance, and health and safety regulations. Commercial and business properties include retail, wholesale, industrial, multi-family apartment complexes, city properties, schools, religious institutions, and similar entities. Part of the evaluation process includes:
- An owner/operator survey to obtain feedback on city services and neighborhood issues
- Site reviews
- Coordination of city services such as Police Department and Operations & Maintenance
- Follow up to business operator and community concerns
In addition to property evaluations, other services include:
- Answering questions from businesses, residents, and customers
- Responding to complaints
- Performing license reviews for the City Council
- Working with architects, engineers, and contractors regarding construction issues and improvement projects

Health Licenses:
Some types of businesses are regulated by the City and are routinely inspected such as food establishments, pool facilities and lodging. For more information, please see the Environmental Health Program.
