Emergency Management is a division of the Fire Department. The Fire Chief serves as the city’s Emergency Management Director and is assisted by the department’s three (3) Deputy Chiefs who serve as Deputy Emergency Management Directors.
As the Emergency Management Director, it is the Chief’s responsibility to:
- Make certain that the city is prepared for a large-scale emergency.
- Make certain that the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is operational and functional.
- Make certain that the city’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) is up-to-date and communicated with all stakeholders who have an assigned responsibility within the plan.
- Coordinate and command the EOC in the event of a large-scale emergency.
- Assign resources, as needed, to deploy the EOC and to respond appropriately to an emergency consistent with the EOP.
- Make recommendations to improve the city’s operational effectiveness in responding to and managing large-scale emergencies.
Upon request, the Emergency Management Division will provide input to local schools and businesses in creating their own emergency operations plan.
