National Night Out 2008 - Details coming soon!
Brooklyn Park had an amazing 168 registered parties for National Night Out 2006, an increase from 2005 which had 152 parties. There was also a lot of participation from city employees and other groups. All city departments were represented and some of the other groups include: North Ambulance, National Guard, Minnegasco, North Hennepin Mediation, and the Brooklyn Park Crime Prevention Association.
The city-wide event included plans of food and fun. Cotton candy, water, ice cream, popcorn, and Caribou Coffee are scheduled for the night. Some of planned activities include: Pony rides, petting zoo, penny carnival, spin art, kids hopper & slide, fireworks and more. The Canine Unit will do a demonstration around 8:00 p.m.
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out (NNO) is designed to give crime and drugs a going away party. To participate, we ask that you have a neighborhood party on National Night Out, which is held the first Tuesday of August. Most parties start around 5:30-6:00 p.m. If you register with the police department, we will try to have someone from our participating agencies stop by your party. Some of the agencies involved include:
Police,
Fire, National Guard, North Ambulance, and many, many more.
Goals of National Night Out
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships;
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Light Up the Park
Light Up the Park, a community celebration held at the Noble Sports Park, features some great activities for everyone. These events include: Free pony rides, penny carnival, face painting, D.J./ music, clowns, and more.
Each year at 9:30 p.m. we Light Up the Park by turning on police and fire lights and sirens. We ask that you bring a flashlight to this event so you can help Light Up the Park. We will also have door prizes, so be sure to mark your calendar!
Special CEAP Event
As in the past, we receive school supply donations for CEAP. To help make this happen, we ask everyone who has a party to request those attending the party to bring school supplies to be donated. Please drop off the donated school supplies at the Noble Sports Park during Light Up the Park, or you may drop them off directly to CEAP. We will have special parking next to the CEAP truck for you to drop off your donations. Your generosity in the past has been outstanding and we hope to have another successful year.
