Citizen's Academy

    

The Brooklyn Park Police Citizen's Academy was started in 1998 to better educate the public about the daily functions of the police department.  This ten-week program will cover many aspects of the police department.  Topics include:  Crime analysis, canine unit, jail tour, firearm shoot, and much more.

 
What is the Brooklyn Park Police Citizen's Academy?
The Brooklyn Park Police Citizen's Academy is a program designed to better educate the public about how the police department works on a daily basis. It is a ten-week program that consists of nine weeks of classes, meeting one night a week. The classes generally meet for two hours. The tenth week is graduation.
 
Who is eligible?
To participate in this Academy you must live in Brooklyn Park or work in the city. Also, a criminal history check will be done on all applicants. No one with a felony conviction will be accepted into the program. In addition, anyone with a misdemeanor within the last two years will not be eligible. All applicants must be at least 18 years old. Up to 28 people will be accepted per class.
 
How much does it cost?
There is no cost to participate in this program!
 
How do I apply for the Academy?
If you would like to participate in the Brooklyn Park Police Citizen's Academy you must fill out an application.  You can get an application by coming to the police department or by calling 763-493-8284. After we review your application we will contact you regarding the results.
 
How can the Brooklyn Park Police Citizens Academy help the community?
At the Brooklyn Park Police Department, we believe that communication between the police and the community is critical in the fight against crime. Through the BPPD Citizens Academy, it is hoped that this communication is made even better.
