The Division utilizes a variety of resources to meet the expectations of members of the community, while implementing the regulations and standards of the city. In order to accomplish this, the city often assumes the role of educator, mediator, problem-solver, legal investigator and enforcer. The Division is responsible for addressing everything from minor annoyances to major health and safety hazards. Although a significant portion of the city is proactively evaluated each year (please refer to the Spruce Up the Park program), we rely on the communication of the residents, business operators and visitors in order to address specific issues in the city. Our Division also works closely with other departments (Police Department, Operations & Maintenance, Recreation & Parks, etc.) in order to resolve neighborhood and community issues.
The primary focus of this program is to respond to the immediate concerns of residents and other customers. Although many situations are resolved through voluntary cooperation, some situations require the use of enforcement actions. Please keep in mind that we are required to follow certain legal processes to protect the city from potential liability as part of our investigation.
