Target Development

The Target Corporation is expanding in Brooklyn Park. The company is already the city’s largest taxpayer and largest employer. The expansion is the result of Target’s anticipated employment growth and builds on the contract negotiated in 2006. Because of the recession, Target delayed expansion for a few years. But now the company is ready to go!

Right now 1,300 employees work out of the company’s existing buildings in Brooklyn Park, but Target is expanding to 5,200 employees by 2014 (adding more than 15 percent to our city’s workforce!) The move is a win-win situation for everyone involved, including Brooklyn Park taxpayers. Target will construct at least one new building in exchange for city assistance. The city is using available development funds, not general tax dollars. Target will pay approximately $1 million more every year in property taxes once the new building is complete.

The Brooklyn Park Economic Development Authority approved an amended contract with Target at its December 12, 2011, meeting.  Click here to view the contract.
