Permits to Purchase Handguns - General Applicant Information
Application forms for permits to purchase handguns are available to Brooklyn Park residents at the reception area of the Police facility Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  This form is also available by accessing and printing the links below.  You must complete the form, sign and return to the Police Department in person.  You will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files.  Click here to download and install a free copy of Adobe on your computer.

Completed application forms will be accepted during our normal business hours.  Applications must be brought in by the applicant themselves. Identification must be verified by the staff member receiving the application, therefore, a second party cannot submit the form for another.

Permits to purchase will not be approved to any person where one or more of the statutory restrictions apply. These restrictions are listed on page 4 of the Handgun Acquisition Permit form published by the State of Minnesota. Permits will not be granted if the application is not completed or is found to contain false or incorrect information.

Permits will be mailed to the applicants after all background checks have been completed.  This takes approximately 10 to 12 days after they have been received, but can take longer.
