Minnesota Housing provides the opportunity for eligible homebuyers who qualify for a Minnesota Housing CASA loan to receive an interest-free, deferred loan to help with down payment and closing costs. Assistance is available through the Homeownership Assistance Fund (HAF) for up to $5,000 or the HOME Homeowner Entry Loan Program (HOME HELP) for up to $7,000.
Am I eligible for a CASA loan?
If you:
- Are a first time homebuyer;
- Have federal income tax return copies for the last 3 years,
- Have acceptable credit;
- Have an income at or below prescribed Minnesota Housing Income limits and want to buy a qualifying home;
- Are purchasing a home within the geographic service area of a CASA Community initiative;
You may be eligible.
How do I get started?
Getting started is easier than you think. If you haven’t already done so, sign up for Home Stretch First Time Homebuyer Workshop through CAPSH at 952-933-9639 ext. 281. The workshop will help you understand the entire home buying process, including: financing options, overcoming barriers to homeownership, assistance for low-mod income buyers, affordability, and help identify the home that is right for you. The class is mandatory if you will be a using Minnesota Housing Loan Program.
Do I qualify?
First time homebuyers interested in down payment and closing costs assistance should contact a Minnesota Housing participating lender prior to signing a purchase agreement. Participating lenders can determine the level of eligibility.
