The Code Enforcement and Public Health division is dedicated to maintaining a healthy and vibrant city for those who live in, work in, or visit Brooklyn Park. The protection and improvement of environmental conditions is implemented through communication, education, proactive inspections, and response to service requests.  To ensure quality of life in our neighborhood communities, the Code Enforcement and Public Health division follows three strategic initiatives in reaching this goal:

·         Spruce Up the Park - The focus of this initiative is the resolution of concerns regarding property maintenance, accumulations of junk and debris, parking, outdoor storage, long grass and weeds, inoperable vehicles, graffiti, storage of waste and recycling containers, zoning issues, and other nuisances.  Pro-active inspections and responses to resident complaints are conducted at residential and commercial properties. 

·         Public Health -The focus of public health is to protect the health and safety of the public through education, inspections and the elimination of environmental hazards.  A comprehensive approach is utilized in order to address imminent health and safety hazards, as well as nuisances.  This involves working with members of the residential and business community concerning health issues, complex housing conditions, and the regulation of licensed establishments.  Residents and business operators partner with the City to ensure safe and healthful housing, businesses and environments.   

·         Neighborhood Action Program -The goal of this initiative is to reduce crime and improve the livability of challenged single-family neighborhoods through pro-active police enforcement and property maintenance inspections.  This is a collaborative effort with other departments including police, rental inspections, utilities and recreation as well as residents to achieve program goals.
