The Brooklyn Park Police Explorers – Post #3655

Have you every thought to yourself, “I think I want to be in Law Enforcement?” Well, the Brooklyn Park Police Explorers may just be what you are looking for!  The Police Explorer program is a job exploration program for young adults ages 14-21 who may be interested in learning more about the field of Law Enforcement. The meetings are held at the Brooklyn Park Police Department every Monday night from 7pm-9pm starting around early to mid-September and going until the end of April. In those meetings, you will learn about topics such as: Leadership, Officer Safety, Proper Procedures, a Variety of Laws and Ordinances, and training for the Regional and National competitions. We will help you prepare for the 13 different events that you may draw during these events.

Every year, the Explorers go to the meetings to prepare for the Regional competitions which will be held in the City of Rochester the last full weekend in April. There are 13 different events in which you will learn to participate. These include:  Shoot/Don’t shoot, First Aid, Interview and Interrogation, Domestics, Traffic Stops, Traffic Accident, Crime Scene, Hostage Negotiation, Bomb Threat, Burglary in Progress, White Collar Crime, Crime Prevention, and Search and Arrest.

The National competitions are held around the U.S. every two years. This is a chance for the Explorers to learn about Law Enforcement on the Local, State and National level. You will be able to attend seminars with Law Enforcement agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Secret Service. There will be demonstrations involving these agencies and the entire conference is centered around the Explorers. The Explorers will also get to explore the state that we are in during our free time.

We also do fundraisers to defer some of the cost of the different event that we participated in such as the Regional and National competitions. We have participate in such events as:

* Assist with visiting Neighborhood parties on National Night Out in August.
* Assisting with the parking lots at the Tater Days Celebration in Brooklyn Park.
* The 3M Golf tournament held in the City of Blaine.
* Selling poinsettias and popcorn in the Fall for fundraising.
* Assisting the Osseo and Crystal VFW in Fish and Steak Fry's for fundraising.
