Training Requirements For

New Firefighter Recruits

The purpose of the Brooklyn Park Fire Department training program for new firefighter recruits is to give a full understanding of basic firefighting techniques as well as emergency medical response procedures for life-saving activities.

To that end, we will provide firefighter recruits with the following training during his or her first three (3) years on the department, if needed. Hours are approximate and are subject to change with or without notice.

 Drivers Training   6 Hours
 Basic Pumping  40 Hours

 Firefighter II  32 Hours
 Hazardous Materials  48 Hours
 State Certification for Firefighter II

Also available for all firefighters are sectional, state and national schools, as well as local technical and community college courses. Everyone is encouraged to attend as much training as possible to maintain and improve their knowledge and skill levels. Some training is mandatory, usually mandated by OSHA or the State of Minnesota.

The Brooklyn Park Fire Department also has a mentoring program for new recruits. Your station officers will meet with you at least monthly to review your new knowledge and skill levels, and assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have.
