Parking On Street

How do I obtain a permit to park on my street?

On-street parking is allowed along the vast majority of roadways within the city for the convenience of the adjacent residents.  However, some roadways are posted with parking restriction signs and there are general citywide parking prohibitions that every resident or visitor should be aware of.  These include the following:

     1.  Parking a vehicle on-street for more than 24 consecutive hours.
     2.  Parking a vehicle on-street between 2-5 a.m. from October 15 through April 15.
     3.  Parking of a commercial vehicle or commercial trailer in a residential area.

Other parking restrictions also exist, see Police Department page.

The city may allow residents to supersede the restrictions noted above under hardship circumstances (moving, driveway reconstruction, etc.) and for a short time period by permit issued by the City Traffic Engineer (Jeff Holstein - 763-493-8102).  These requests should be received a minimum of three working days in advance.

Note that the city does not allow dumpsters or portable-on-demand-storage (PODS) units to be placed on-street and that no permits will be issued for this condition.
