The Brooklyn Park Economic Development Authority (EDA) has created a development opportunity at the southwest corner of Brooklyn Boulevard and Regent Avenue. In July 2007, the EDA purchased the site from Dominium Management Services, Inc. The former Huntington Pointe Apartments were demolished during 2008, and the site is now available for development. (Note: This project does not involve the Huntington Place Apartments).
Project Steps and Timeline
Acquisition: The EDA purchased the property on July 30, 2007.
Relocation:
SRF Consulting provided relocation services to former tenants.
Community Stabilization Project (CSP) also provided tenant assistance and translation services.
Planning for redevelopment: In early 2008, the city partnered with the Corridor Housing Initiative and Hennepin County to undertake a community planning process that examined development concepts for the Huntington Pointe site. Click here for more information or call 763-493-8050.
Demolition: The former apartments were demolished between April and September 2008.
Development: The development plan will be guided by the results of the Corridor Initiative planning process. Click here to view the final report. The site will be maintained as open-space until development occurs.
Why is the City interested in redeveloping apartments?
In response to concerns about neighborhood instability within Brooklyn Park, the City Council established the Stable Neighborhoods Action Plan (SNAP) Task Force in 2005. The SNAP Task Force was charged with researching factors leading to neighborhood instability and determining:
An appropriate mix of housing for current and future residents
Development standards to evaluate and guide future development
The redevelopment of Huntington Pointe Apartments is consistent with the findings and recommendations of the task force and the SNAP report.
Funding
The redevelopment of the Huntington Pointe apartments is a large project requiring financial assistance by the EDA. The EDA has identified several existing sources of funding. No tax increases are anticipated as a result of this project.
