Trash/Recycling Enclosures & Collection

Storage of garbage, trash, litter, grease, recycling, and similar items must be inside a proper waste container with a tight fitting cover. All waste and waste containers be stored inside a designated area inside a building in conformance with all Fire and Building Codes, or inside an approved enclosure designed for this purpose. The enclosure must be large enough to accommodate all waste and recycling containers. A building permit and site plan is required before construction may begin. Waste enclosures must be in conformance with the following:  (click here for commercial waste enclosure handouts:  Part I and Part II)
  •  Four sided 8 feet x 12 feet (minimum) enclosed structure with an opaque metal gate
  • Constructed of fireproof materials, faced with materials that are compatible with the principal building
  • Interior area sealed with a smooth, non-absorbent material to allow frequent cleaning
  • Located to the rear of the property, 50 feet from all public right-of-ways, at least five feet from interior lot lines, and readily accessible by a licensed collection vehicle
  • Constructed on a concrete pad
Proper storage of waste ensures a clean and healthful environment, and promotes an attractive community. For more information regarding waste storage requirements, please see our “Waste Enclosure” handout. Questions regarding architectural design standards or setback requirements may be directed to the Code Enforcement and Public Health Division. (City Ord. Ch. 152.392B.5)

Recycling- General Info

All businesses are responsible to recycle and properly dispose of their trash by using a licensed hauler. Trash and recycling must be picked up at least once a week, or more frequently depending on the quantity of waste produced.   A list of licensed waste haulers may be obtained by contacting the Code Enforcement & Public Health Division. A useful “Recycling and Waste Management” book can be picked up at City Hall or by calling the City’s Recycling Division. (City Ord. Ch. 98)

Yard and Landscape Waste

State law prohibits disposing leaves, brush, grass clippings, and other yard waste with the main garbage/trash stream. Please ensure your lawn service is appropriately removing and disposing of your yard waste at a licensed facility. (City Ord. Ch. 98)
