The following applies to those who are participating members in the

Brooklyn Park Firefighters' Relief Association retirement benefit program.

 

The firefighter pension is administered by the Brooklyn Park Firefighters' Relief Association.  The Association is a governmental entity that receives and manages public money to provide retirement benefits for individuals providing the governmental services of firefighting.  Each active firefighter, upon approval of a membership application, shall have an individual account established as defined by the bylaws and state statutes.

 Vesting Schedule:  0 through 4 years of service  0%
   5 years of service  40%
   6 years of service  52%
   7 years of service  64%
   8 years of service  76% 
   9 years of service   88% 
   10 years of service   100%
     
 Payment Available:   Age 50 minimum   
     
 Pension Amounts:  Potential of $75,000 after 10 years **   
   Potential of $150,000 after 20 years **   
     
 Rollover Available:  Yes  
     
 Disability Benefit:  Yes, Same vesting as pension
