Step to it Brooklyn Park
We’re walking to win!

Brooklyn Park, MN (May 1, 2008) – The City of Brooklyn Park is one of five cities competing in Hennepin County’s Step To It community challenge. It’s a four week contest between Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale and St Louis Park.

Here’s how it works:

From May 17 to June 14, Brooklyn Park residents will be asked to walk and record all their steps on a special website created by the Hennepin County Department of Public Health. The city whose residents have logged the most steps wins the prize, which is a super fun community party!

It’s all an effort to raise awareness of physical activity and is also an attempt to get folks out onto city sidewalks, parks and trails.

The City of Brooklyn Park is handing out free pedometers and t-shirts to those who sign up at our kick-off walk, which will be held Sunday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m. right outside the Brooklyn Park Police Department.   The short walk will be led by Mayor Steve Lampi, local celebrities, Spud the city mascot as well as human and canine members of the police and fire departments. After the walk, everyone is then invited to attend the city’s Public Safety Open House event, which will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. that day.

If you cannot make the kick off event on May 18, no problem.  Visit www.steptoit.org or come into the Community Activity Center, 5600 85th Ave No and we will register you.  Visit us after you have registered and we will supply you with a starter bag of T-shirt, pedometer, City of Brooklyn Park, Parks and Trails Map.
