A variety of fitness classes in the daytime and evenings are offered for adults at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center and Zanewood Recreation Center.

This scale is an approximate guide to the activity level of a class or trip. The scale is based on the level of activity and physical ability needed to perform the activity. If you are unsure if a class or trip is right for you contact us.

Building Better Bones

Did you know that weight and strength training are among the best ways to prevent bone loss through Osteoporosis? It is a disease in which bones become brittle and weak, increasing your risk of fracture. This class will work all the major muscle groups with hand weights, resistance training and body weight exercises, increasing your muscular strength and bone density, leading to stronger, healthier bones, reducing the risk of fracture caused by falls.

Dynamic Balance

Experience balance in a completely new way! By focusing on all the muscles of the body, both large and small, we will create more stability and mobility to decrease risk of falls. Through gentle movements, we will also bring balance back to the whole body, allowing us to move better and experience life better. Exercises are based off of Katy Bowman's whole body movement practice, and will be performed in socks or bare feet. Please arrive to class 15 minutes early the first time you attend this class.

Roll Out and Tune Up

Want to feel like you had a weekly massage? Do you want a feeling of relaxation?

Come to our new class offering Roll Out and Tune Up! This is one of the best ways to perform self-care and to treat day-to-day stiffness. Gentle release techniques (myofascial release) is a must-have for anyone who exercises. By using balls and foam rollers to focus on tight areas in the muscles (trigger points), muscle tension will be reduced. joint range of motion will be increased, blood and lymphatic circulation will improve. Movement will be performed mostly on the floor. Please bring a roller is you own one. Come see what all the excitement is about!

SilverSneakers Cardio

Get up and go with an aerobics class that's safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle.

SilverSneakers Classic

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available, if needed, for seated or standing support.

SilverSneakers Circuit

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardio-vascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Yoga

SilverSneakers Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Hatha yoga

Learn to breathe deeper and focus your mind, while stretching and strengthening your whole body. Each class includes balancing, stretching, twisting, hip opening, ab strengthening and a peaceful ending rest. Designed for beginners to intermediate students, individual poses are presented from start to finish ensuring a safe, fun, challenging, yet doable class for all! Dress lightly in non-baggy clothes. Please bring a yoga mat.

Come try yoga and experience the benefits!

Designed to reduce stress and restore a healthy and balanced mind and body, this class shows you skills on how to relieve tension and help calm the mind while also increasing strength, balance, flexibility and coordination. Class sessions include seated and standing poses, balance exercises, stretching and a stress-reducing, relaxation segment.

Please bring a yoga mat for floor work. You must be able to get up and down from floor unassisted.

Restorative yoga

Do you need a break from the stresses of life? Do you love your life and want a quiet space in which to reflect? Discover restorative yoga. In this class, yoga postures are modified with props for support and postures may be held to allow the body to fully relax. Slower, softer, gentler, calming, soothing, stress-relieving, grounding all words to describe restorative yoga. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing.


This class is based on moving from one pose to the next using sun salutations and postures that connect to one another. Flow yoga is also known as vinyasa, which means "following your breath", so you always go at your own pace. Each class includes balance, strength, compression, twists, hip/heart openers, core work and a quiet rest at the end which you will have richly earned! This class is designed for intermediate students. Dress lightly in non-baggy clothes. Please bring a yoga mat.

Zumba Gold

Zumba ia an exciting combination of Latin dance and aerobic exercise. While taking Zumba you will learn your aerobic potential as well as Latin dances such as Salsa, Cumbia and Merengue. Classes are led by a certified Zumba instructor.

Walking with Ease

Make physical activity part of your everyday life

If you need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be active, this program could be for you. Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks is partnering with the National Arthritis Foundation to offer a 6-week, evidence-based program called Walking with Ease (WWE).

This program has shown to build confidence in ability to be physically active, increase balance, strength and walking pace, reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis and improve overall health.
