Apple iPad Workshop

If you are new to iPad and the Apple world of technology with little to no experience, then this 2-hour hands-on practice workshop summary is perfect for you! Basic overview of the iPad and usage along with importance of its settings, buttons, accessories, icons, common apps, commands and controls will be the highlight of the class.

This workshop will get you started to become familiar with most common iPad use so you can enjoy using your smart device while exploring more of its functionalities. You will become comfortable using your iPad once you complete this great workshop. You'll be browsing the web and be comfortable with security, privacy, passcodes, photos and video activities.

Anyone Can Fall

Approximately one-third of people 65 and older fall each year. Falls are preventable.

We will offer tips to help people prevent falls including:

  • Easy modifications that can make homes safer
  • Ways to still enjoy the outdoors
  • Importance of foot care
  • Exercise and ways to stay active
  • Knowing your medications
  • Taking care of your eyes

We introduce people to evidence-based fall prevention programs and explain how the Senior LinkAge Line can provide resources to support healthy aging.

Interested in getting more experience with computers or other classes? Minnesota state colleges now offer tuition at $20 per credit for seniors 65 and older.

North Hennepin Community College and Hennepin Technical College are local, affordable college option; come check them out! They have evening, online, and weekend classes.

Community discussion: healthy relationships

Cornerstone Advocacy Service is partnering with the Brooklyn Park Library to start a community discussion around healthy relationships.

Defensive Driving

Age 55 and up driver improvement classes

Minnesota Highway Safety Council is offering defensive driving classes presented by a certified instructor. This course will save you 10 percent on your auto insurance for 3 years! There are no written or behind the wheel tests. Certificates will be issued upon class completion.

Dynamic Aging

Dynamic Aging shifts the conversation from exercising to moving. No matter where you're starting, if you change how you move, you can change how you feel.

Join us to learn more about moving through life better by optimizing body function and minimizing pain and discomfort. Using whole-body alignment and basic exercises, movements and adjustments, we can learn to move in a way that creates more mobility, reduces tension, heals tissues, decreases pain/inflammation, and builds strength and stability. This class is based off a whole-body movement practice designed by biomechanist and founder Katy Bowman. Movements will be completed in socks or bare feet.

Makeup Revival

For women 40 and better

When is the last time you updated your makeup and beauty regime? Has your skin changed over time? What about your hair color?

Join this "boot camp" to update your look with tips and techniques for ageless beauty. Learn about a variety of products (some may be completely new to you), application and the latest trends in makeup and skin care. This class is essential for busy, beautiful women who could use a little updating. No products or services will be sold!

Music: Lady Days

A musical bio performance of some of America's first and finest jazz vocalists including Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James. Petrus channels jazz greats of the past, celebrating their talent and strength while honoring their struggle and determination.

Smartphone Workshop

This 2-hour hands-on smartphone (cellphone) workshop is for people with little to no experience who are challenged with working with their smartphones (iPhone or Android). The class will cover most common cellphone options including texting, calls and security management. Several of the main cellphone settings, Wi-Fi, security, maps, photos/videos, accessories, icons and apps management, commands and controls will be among the highlighted points.

You will become more comfortable using your cellphone once you complete this two-hour workshop session. You will be able to better handle with confidence your calls, messages, texts, browse the web, and launch many fun apps like GPS, music, news, weather and Google search. You will learn how to connect or remove Wi-Fi networks.

Street Smart for Seniors

Jeff Long, United States postal inspector for more than 26 years will share his knowledge on how to keep yourself safe from fraud. Jeff has worked in all of the functional areas that postal inspectors investigate including:

  • mail theft
  • identity theft
  • robberies
  • burglaries
  • assaults
  • mail fraud
  • revenue fraud
  • security

He is currently assigned to the Mail Fraud and Revenue Fraud Team.

His presentation is humorous, engaging, entertaining and most of all very helpful in understanding and avoiding personal fraud.

A continuing adventure

Explore different ways to use water color through one-on-one instruction. Learn at your own pace in a fun and relaxing atmosphere! No drawing skills required. Patterns are provided and you get a new painting in every session. Materials are provided.

If you are new to this class, please request a supply list when you register. Remember to bring a bag lunch.
