On Saturday, May 20 city staff conducted a routine inspection of the Boone Water Reservoir, located on the 6600 block of Boone Avenue North, and found it had been vandalized and broken into. Upon finding the vandalism, the City isolated the tank from the water supply system and contacted the Minnesota Department of Health, whose inspector came out and took water samples from the tank for testing.
Water from this tank was last used in the water supply system on Sunday, May 14. Routine testing was conducted by the City on Wednesday, May 17 and found to be normal. All water currently in the public water supply system is safe.
Today, the Minnesota Department of Health confirmed through initial testing that the water in the reservoir is also safe. More in depth test results are expected next week. To complete the inspection of the water reservoir itself, the City is draining the two million gallons of water left in the tank, as an added precaution. The tank will also be re-disinfected before it is put back into service.
