The Brooklyn Park Police Department is excited to announce that we have two designated parking stalls at both our North building (5400 85th Ave. N) and South building (7608 Brooklyn Blvd. N) where individuals can meet to finalize internet transactions and/or exchanges.
Our agency joins many other local law enforcement agencies in offering "internet safe zones" as safe locations to conduct internet exchanges. This is a place where the public is encouraged to buy goods from one another that they may find on local social media garage sale sites or local classified sites. Signs are clearly posted in well-lit areas that are covered by 24-hour video security cameras. Both police stations have two designated parking spaces for internet exchanges and will be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This initiative was sparked to encourage safe internet exchanges. Oftentimes when people meet up to buy goods from others, neither party knows the other. Sometimes, depending on the nature of the item, one or both parties may carry large amounts of cash in order to purchase an item.
Safety is our paramount concern and our department wants to offer this service to residents as a crime prevention tool.
