I’m catching ‘em all: Tales from Tim’s Recycling Bin

September 1, 2016 02:53 PM

One of the nice things about Pokémon Go is that it gets players outside and in the environment. Augmented reality apps can do more than help you catch 'em all, they can communicate about recycling.

For instance the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association launched its Recycle Everywhere “Recycling Starts Here” contest app. If you visit recycling containers in various public places in Manitoba you can win prizes.

Brooklyn Park doesn't have thousands of dollars to develop an app. But we did launch a new electronic newsletter system.

But we need more from you. Let us know what new ways can we use to get the word out about recycling? And what you want to know?

  • Do you want reminders to put your cart out when it’s recycling week?
  • Want to know what happens to your recycling after it leaves the curb?
  • How to order a bigger cart?

Shoot me an email, send a PM to the City on Facebook or message us on Twitter.

Car seat recycling

Hurry, you have a limited opportunity to recycle your old child car seats.

From September 1 through September 11, bring your old car seat to Target stores in Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Crystal and Champlin and drop them at the designated Target Take Back recycling area.

All car seat brands are accepted for recycling. In return you will earn a 20% discount on a new car seat.

Recycle everywhere

Most of us recycle in the kitchen, but the bathroom – not so much. About half your home's recyclables never make it to the recycling bin. Pick up some tips and tricks to Recycle Everywhere in your home.

Choose to reuse

If you're cheap like me, you'll want to check out the free Choose to Reuse coupon book. Get discounts on already reduced priced items at thrift shops, bike stores and other shops. Catch ‘em all at City Hall or download the app.
